Summary

  • Activation Lock is an iOS security feature that prevents devices from being erased and re-used while an Apple ID is logged in.
  • If a device becomes Activation Locked, it is unusable until the password to the Apple ID is entered or a bypass code from an MDM provider is entered.
  • To utilize an Activation Lock bypass code, the locked device needs to be supervised and enrolled via Auto-Enrollment.
    • If a device meets these requirements, the Activation Lock bypass code is stored in the device inventory record in Jamf Now.
  • Bypass codes are entered at the Activation Lock screen on the device in the password field, leaving the username field blank.
  • By connecting the device to a Mac and using Finder, we can copy and paste the bypass code rather than manually typing on the device.
