Summary

  • Activation Lock is a security feature from Apple to restrict access to a Mac.
  • Activation Lock prevents a Mac from being wiped, reactivated, or disabling the Find My service without its users Apple ID credentials.
  • To utilize macOS Activation Lock Bypass, Macs require:
    • Apple Silicon, T2 Security Chip, or supervised status
    • Two-factor authentication for Apple ID
    • Find My enabled after enrollment in Jamf Now
      • If Find My was enabled prior to enrollment, it must be disabled and reenabled to store the bypass code in Jamf Now.
  • If a computer meets the requirements for Activation Lock Bypass, the bypass code is stored in its inventory record in Jamf Now.
  • Bypass codes are entered in macOS Recovery Assistant.
    • Select Recovery Assistant > Activate with MDM key and enter the code in the field provided.
      • If this option is not present, select Erase Mac. After the erase process is completed, the option will appear in the Recovery Assistant menu.
  • After the bypass code is entered and the Mac is unlocked, macOS will need to be reinstalled.
